Low Light / No Light Operations

The Low Light / No Light Operations course from Medicine In Bad Places is an intensive two-day training program designed to prepare EMS providers, rescue personnel, tactical medics, and first responders to safely and effectively operate in reduced visibility, nighttime, and completely dark environments.

Emergency responders may be required to assess, treat, move, and evacuate patients in environments where visibility is limited or nonexistent. This course helps participants build the skills, confidence, and situational awareness needed to work safely during nighttime emergencies, tactical incidents, disasters, maritime operations, mass casualty events, and austere conditions.

Low Light / No Light Medical Operations Training

Participants learn how to adapt emergency medical care and rescue operations to low-light and no-light conditions. The course focuses on practical decision-making, safe movement, patient care, communication, and scene coordination when normal visibility is degraded.

Patient Assessment in Reduced Visibility

Students practice conducting patient assessments and medical interventions when lighting is limited. Training emphasizes working methodically, maintaining safety, recognizing patient needs, and delivering care under physical and environmental stressors.

Lighting Systems and Night Operations Equipment

The course introduces the effective use of handheld, head-mounted, and scene lighting systems. Participants learn how to use lighting tools to support patient care, team movement, safety, and scene management while understanding the importance of light discipline during tactical and rescue operations.

Casualty Movement and Evacuation

Low Light / No Light Operations training includes casualty movement and evacuation in confined, hazardous, or degraded environments. Students learn how team movement, communication, and coordination support safer patient movement during nighttime and low-visibility responses.

Communication and Scene Management in Darkness

Reduced visibility can make communication and coordination more difficult. This course reinforces situational awareness, team communication, scene safety, and operational coordination during nighttime emergencies, maritime incidents, industrial settings, and austere environments.

Training for EMS, Rescue and Tactical Medical Teams

This course is designed for EMTs, paramedics, fire rescue personnel, tactical medics, maritime rescue teams, search and rescue personnel, industrial emergency response teams, and law enforcement medical support personnel.

Course Duration and Completion

The Low Light / No Light Operations course is a two-day training program consisting of approximately 16 training hours. Students who successfully complete the course receive a Certificate of Completion from Medicine In Bad Places.
